Dolphin House is a family home situated on the outskirts of Shanklin,
in an area of outstanding natural beauty. the house is in a peaceful
situation near the small village of Luccombe, on the coastal path,
and adjacent to National Trust land, between Shanklin and Ventnor.
The back garden runs down to the cliff and there are views across
Sandown Bay and the English Channel.
It is about 5 minutes walk to the beach and Old Village,
where there are small shops, pubs and restaurants, and 10 minutes
to the centre of the town. It is also very close to St.Blasius Church
and to a large area of parkland, with a duck-pond and children's
play area.
Beautiful and extensive walks can be found all around
and there are many other areas of outstanding beauty to be found
all over the island, accessed by an extensive system of well-marked
footpaths and bridleways.
Beaches
on the island are varied. The Solent offers plenty of shipping activity
to observe. The south-east coast (where Dolphin House is situated),
provides wide sandy beaches and safe bathing. The south-west coast
is the wildest and most isolated. The beaches here are quieter and
more natural, but can be hazardous for swimmers, owing to the strong
currents. Fossils can be found on these coasts.
